Space Cybersecurity Architect

Axiom provides access and integration services to the International Space Station today while building and operating its successor – Axiom Station, the world’s first international commercial space station – to improve life on Earth and foster possibilities beyond it.  Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Space Cybersecurity Architect to support the development of Axiom Station along with laying the foundations for the future of cyber resilient space infrastructure. 

SUMMARY: The Space Cybersecurity Architect will lead the development and deployment of end-to-end cybersecurity solutions and infrastructure in support of Axiom’s mission operations center, ground-to-space communications, and Axiom Station on-orbit.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Architect evolvable and scalable cybersecurity solutions for ground and space infrastructure:

   • Development of cybersecurity requirements for Axiom’s ground and space infrastructure 

   • Architect Axiom’s ground-to-space and in-space station network security infrastructure

   • Lead the mission operations and Axiom Station engineering teams in implementing hardware and software solutions in support of integrated and cyber resilient ground and space infrastructure 

   • Identify security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommend changes or enhancements

   • Align organizational cybersecurity strategy and infrastructure with overall business and technology strategy

2. Supervise continuing sustainability and resiliency of Axiom’s cybersecurity infrastructure:

   • Lead engagement with 3rd party cybersecurity solutions providers 

   • Advise the corporate IT team on the testing and implementation of Axiom network cybersecurity infrastructure 

   • Advise the corporate IT team on vulnerability testing, risk analyses and cybersecurity assessments

3. Be Axiom’s leader in the evolution of cyber defense capabilities on the ground and in space:

   • Identify and communicate current and emerging security threats

   • Lead the design upgrades of cybersecurity architecture elements to mitigate threats as they emerge

   • Regularly communicate vital information, cybersecurity needs and priorities to upper management

U.S. Citizenship & Security Clearance

   • Candidates must be U.S. Citizens. Candidates must also be able to hold a DoD security clearance

Education & Experience

Required

   • Bachelor’s Degree in an IT field or Cybersecurity

   • 15+ years’ total professional experience

   • 10+ years’ experience with DoD cybersecurity organizations, requirements, and systems

   • The experience and technical expertise to build cybersecurity infrastructure from scratch or update existing systems in response to ongoing changes in the cybersecurity landscape, including new risks and adherence to applicable regulations

   • Utilizing emerging technologies to design and implement cybersecurity solutions; monitoring and improving those solutions while working with an information security team

   • Advising engineering teams on the design and development of cybersecurity best practices; implementation of cybersecurity measures to meet business goals, customer needs and regulatory requirements

   • Cybersecurity considerations of cloud computing, including data breaches, hacking, account hijacking, malicious insiders, third parties, authentication, APTs, data loss and DoS attacks

   • Identify and access management; tracking and creating/enforcing policies that govern access sensitive technology resources and information assets

   • The ability to think like a malicious hacker to anticipate and defend Axiom against information security risks

   • Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems

   • VB.NET, Java/J2EE, ColdFusion, API/web services, scripting languages and a relational database management system (RDBMS) such as MS SQL Server or Oracle

   • Thorough understanding of relevant industry security standards and protocols including ISO27001 and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies (COBIT); Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) of the Treadway Commission, a joint initiative to combat corporate fraud

   • The ISO 27001 specifications for an information security management system

   • Router, switch and VLAN security; wireless security

   • Risk assessment procedures, policy formation, role-based authorization methodologies, authentication technologies and security attack pathologies

Desired:

   • Master’s Degree in an IT field or Cybersecurity 

   • Certified Information Systems Security Professional – Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (CISSP-ISSAP)

   • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

   • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

   • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

   • SANS-related certifications such as GIAC Defensible Security Architecture (GDSA)
