Scrum Product Owner

What are the limits of innovation and exploration? How do we continue to evolve as a species?

SUMMARY: This position will work on-site at our headquarters in Houston, Texas and will serve as a Product Owner for teams working on human spaceflight systems for the full product life cycle (concept, design, build, test, assembly, integrate, certify, launch, operations, sustainment, etc).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as Product Owner in accordance with the Scrum Guide in an Agile hardware and software development environment

• Collaborate with Product Management to create and maintain a product backlog in accordance with a milestone-driven schedule

• Assess value, develop backlog items, and prioritize stories, epics, and themes to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with product strategy

• Provide backlog management, iteration planning, and elaboration of the user stories 

• Hold Sprint planning meetings with the team to ensure that the highest value items are being prioritized within each Sprint and provide more details as needed

• Solving problems and making decisions with trade-off analysis to keep deliverables on track

• Communicate horizontally and vertically the product vision, roadmap, progress, status, and risk

• Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint Goals

• Keep abreast with Agile/Scrum best practices and new trends

Education & Experience

• BS degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred, will consider relevant years of related experience 

• Must have at least 3 years of professional experience as a product owner

• Demonstrated success in the role of a Scrum Product Owner

• Agile Product Owner Certification preferred

• Comfortable working in technical environments

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

• Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

 Physical Requirements

• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

• Equipment and Machines

• Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Skills

• Prior work experience in custom software or hardware environment preferred

• Must be well versed in agile principles, methodology, and supporting framework

• Strong prioritization skills for managing product backlog to a milestone-driven schedule

• Exposure to Project Management principles or a project management-related coursework or certification is a plus

• The candidate must be able to develop high-quality presentations to communicate status or complex topics on demand

• The candidate must be motivated and possess excellent written and oral communication skills

• The candidate must be flexible in an environment of constantly changing requirements and work well within a team environment
