Deputy Program Manager

Axiom provides unprecedented access to the International Space Station today while building and operating its successor – the world’s first international commercial space station – to improve life on Earth and foster possibilities beyond it.  Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Deputy Program Manager who is preoccupied with big questions: Where do we go from here? What are the limits of innovation and exploration? How do we continue to evolve as a species?

SUMMARY: This is a high visibility position that will work on-site at our headquarters in Houston, Texas and will be primarily focused on providing program management and contract support to the Commercial Destination Development in Low Earth Orbit using the International Space Station (CDISS) Contract.  This includes the technical, strategic, managerial, and administrative work for ensuring the execution, alignment, implementation, and delivery of the Axiom Commercial Space Station to Low Earth Orbit. This role will include cost, schedule, technical and customer management responsibilities throughout all phases of the lifecycle of the Commercial Space Station development. Prior program management experience in developing space systems for challenging environments and missions is expected.

· Work closely with the CEO as prime liaison to NASA customer for program alignment, coordination, and development of the CDISS contract.

· Lead, collaborate and conduct program lifecycle reviews with internal Axiom development teams and NASA customers for commercial spacecraft development.

· Establish strong working relationships with Axiom Leadership Team, Systems Engineering, respective internal/external stakeholders, and NASA customers.

· Lead efforts in understanding, managing, and mitigating schedule, budget, and risk activities.

· Develop, define, and manage program level metrics across the organization for understanding program cost, schedule, and risk.

· Collaborate with system and subsystem engineers, program office personnel and customers for cost, schedule and milestone expectations and delivery.

· Provide project management expertise and toolsets for the integration of the project and program oversight.

· Provide guidance for space systems strategy, technical discussions, organization, and architecture development.

· Other assigned responsibilities, including participate in new program proposals and initiatives.


Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related discipline)

• A minimum of 15+ years of space flight operations, project, or program management experience

· Requires a strong broad background in space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, ground systems support, payloads, and space missions and operations development.

· Requires expert understanding of NASA program, processes, operations, and architecture.

· Expertise in government contracts and contract management

· Demonstrated leadership and extensive collaboration skills are a must.
